This week, a change was made to the official website of the Immigration Canadian (IRCC) for candidates in the International Experience Canada program. No announcement was made, but it now states that IEC participants who are already in Canada can receive their new work permits by mail under specific conditions.
To receive your work permit by mail, you must meet all three of the following conditions:
- You were already in Canada with a valid IEC work permit when you submitted your new IEC application
- You have a valid Port of Entry (POE) Letter of Introduction (LOI), also known as your work permit approval letter, and you are applying for your new work permit before your status expires
- You have a valid status in Canada at the time you request to receive your work permit by mail
Please note: this arrangement does not apply if you are travelling to Canada as a tourist before you have activated your first work permit. You must already be in Canada with a valid IEC work permit to be eligible for this option.
This update provides more flexibility for candidates who are already in Canada and prevents them from having to leave the country again to obtain their new work permit. This is a temporary policy that you can use until December 1st, 2025.
