Over the last few months, the Australian Capital Territory took its time to review the Skilled Nominated (190) visa nomination program. On 29 November 2018, the nomination program was reopened to all applications with a new system for determining nominated applicants.

The new nomination process

From of 29 November 2018, the nomination process is a two-stage process. Herein clients firstly need to formally express their interest in applying for nomination by the Australian Capital Territory. Candidates now need to complete a score-based ‘Canberra Matrix’. In this matrix, points are allocated against economic contribution or benefit and their genuine commitment to be a part of the Australian Capital Territory community.

The highest raked candidates will be selected and invited to apply for nomination. Scores of 20 points and above will be ranked.

Canada increases its immigration targets

The Canadian immigration service (IRCC) has announced its new immigration targets for the next 3 years. This shows a clear increase in the number of available submissions within the economic emigration streams. Concluding, more people have a better chance for a permanent visa through these programs!

The Canadian immigration programs can be divided into different categories: 1) the economic programs, 2) the family programs, 3) visas for refugees and protected persons, and finally 4) applications based on humanitarian grounds. The growth of the immigration targets is largest within the Skilled Worker stream and the Provincial Nomination Programs, which respectively have been awarded 18.5% and 29.6% more places for the years 2020 and 2021.

increased to 35 years of age

From 1 November 2018, the maximum age of 30 years has been increased for Canadian and Irish citizens. From now on Canadian and Irish citizens will be eligible to apply for a Working Holiday visa up to and including 35 years of age. This is an increase of the current maximum age of 30 years. For all other eligible countries, the maximum age remains 30 years.

What is a Working Holiday visa

A Working Holiday visa offers young people an option to go to Australia for a holiday and work. This visa lets you stay in Australia for up to twelve months and encourages cultural exchange and closer ties between Australia and eligible countries.

What lets this visa you do

As stated, this visa allows you to stay in Australia for up to twelve months. During this period you are eligible to work. In most cases, you are allowed to work with an employer for up to six months. Thereby, you can study up to four months.

This visa offers you a unique chance to explore the country and it’s labour.

3 Australian and 3 Canadian cities in the top 10

Global livability index 2018

Each year, ‘The Economist Intelligence United’ publishes the global livability index of cities all over the world. This year also!

The 2018 report shows that not only Australia but Canada as well, both are listed in the top 10 with three cities each. For the first time, Vienna, Austria became first with a score of 99.1/100.

Rating

Cities have been assessed and rated on over 30 aspects. Hereby you could think of stability, healthcare, culture and milieu, but education and infrastructure as well. This year, many cities have notified improvements in the ranking as a result of increasing stability in most regions. Thereby cities that appear at the top of the list, seems to have a link. The cities that score the highest are mostly medium-sized cities in wealthy countries.

Six out of ten cities are located in Australia and Canada, with a respective population density of 3,2 and 4 people per square kilometre.
